One photograph entitled, "Simple fracture of the middle third of the left femur, united without deformity," taken by Charles Milton Bell dated August 1865. Image is of Lieutenant A. W. Starkweather of Indiana, who was thrown from his horse at Black and White Station, Virginia on April 28th, 1865, fracturing the shaft of his left femur. He was admitted to Armory Square Hospital on May 7th. Verso indicates that the photgraph was taken in early August,1865 and that "the case was selected as an interseting illustration of a successful result in a simple fracture of the femur."
