At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Encloses a collection of sermons by Rev. Richard Price that shaped Pickering's faith. Over forty years ago Pickering renounced the "Calvanistic scheme" in which he had been educated as "utterly incompatible with the perfections of the Deity." Price's sermons gave Pickering the concept of the Trinity which he now embraces.
