At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The bill for the relief of William L. Maury passed the Senate yesterday. Encloses (not included) a copy of the bill as it passed the Senate, striking the phrase "legal and. . . ." Undated note from Cox responds that he will make sure the House concurs in "the verbal amend[men]t of the Senate." Kernan was a U.S. senator from New York.
