At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Maryland was the last state to ratify the Articles "by which act the Confederation of the United State of America was completed each and every one of the thirteen states from New Hampshire to Georgia both included having adopted and confirmed and by their delegates in Congress ratified the same."
