Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Certifies receipt of a payment of four dollars from Captain Constant Freeman for Captain Nathaniel Nason's diploma and part of an "assessment levied on the Society of Cincinnati." Jackson had commanded the 16th Massachusetts Regiment and the 4th Massachusetts Regiment during the Revolutionary War. He served as treasurer of the Society of Cincinnati for the state of Massachusetts.
