At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The first letter, on page 1, was from Mauger to Messrs. Lynch Killikelly and Morony, dated 13 August 1764, and was written in London.
The second letter, which spanned from page 2 to page 8, was from Mauger to John Butler, dated 24 August 1764, and was written in Poole.
The third letter, which spanned from page 8 to page 14, was from Mauger to Michael Francklin, dated 24 August 1764, and was written in Poole.
The fourth letter, on page 15, was from Mauger to Pantalian Fernandez & Co., dated 24 September 1767. The location was not included.
The fifth letter, which spanned from page 15 to page 16, was from Mauger to Thomas Cottle, dated 24 September 1767. The location was not included.
The sixth letter, on page 16, was from Mauger to Walter Franklin and family, dated 1 October 1767, and was written in London. Also written in Poole, England
