Written in a secretarial hand and signed by Rear Admiral John Dahlgren as commander of the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron to Acting Commander West. References West's letter of 12 September. Praises him for finding a channel at St. Catherine's, Georgia. Will send a small steamer to verify the channel and help buoy it. Written while abraod the USS "Philadelphia".
