Allen updates a Colonel, whose name is not specified, whom he previously served under regarding his post-war activities. Reports that he worked as a school teacher in Texas before his ill health required him to move to the National Soldier's Home in Ohio, where he could receive adequate medical treatment. Requests that the Colonel grant him a loan so that he may return to Texas in time to teach during the spring semester. Written on stationery depicting (in color) an aerial view of the National Soldier's Home.
