Written by his sister Laura. Writes how much she misses him and about the last time he spent the summer at her house. She prays that he is safe and that he will survive the war. Lousia is very happy that Henry has returned and she hopes that the two of them will have a very good life together. Writes that his Mary is doing better but is still not well. Thinks that Mary will come again to visit in a few days. She fears that their father is very sick and even if he recovers will not be truly well ever again. Writes about gathering flowers in the yard and her garden at home. Thinks about sending him a bouquet. Knows that he cannot write so many letters but asks him to think of her when writing. The recent news from the war is eagerly discussed and she thinks that it will not be long until he comes home from the war. Two small blank pieces of paper are enclosed.

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
