At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Written by Shorb to his friend McSherry. Says he will leave for New York on Monday and expects to be detained in Baltimore until Tuesday so that he will not reach New York until Wednesday evening. Says he will be staying on 5th Avenue and hopes to see him. Reports that everything is quiet in this country. Sends quick update on mutual friends.
