Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Provides a complete printing of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address (page eight), preceded by a full printing of Edward Everett's address, also delivered 19 November 1863 in dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery, located in Pennsylvania. Includes articles on women and work, Napoleon III of France, and various Civil War battles among other topics. This newspaper is fragile, with several areas of discoloration and several tears in the creases.
