At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The manuscript names Thomas Willett, Daniel Whitehead, Capt. Clapp, Elias Doughts, Charles Morgan, & others as the leaders of a "notorious rebellion" in Queens County, and states that they are guilty of treason against the government. It is expected that the men will be apprehended by the government, and the manuscript states that anyone found aiding and abetting the criminals will be charged with a crime as well. Docketed on verso. Written at Fort William Henry.
