At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Patterson writes that it is most important that Robert, Jr. send his sloop down to them before the harvest, otherwise he and his wife will not be able to provide for themselves. If necessary he could take an Albany sloop up to Robert, Jr., but notes that this would be most disagreeable to him. Docketed on verso.
