At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Philip discusses how difficult it is to purchase wheat at the moment, and also requests that his father volunteer him for a tentative expedition, as he is eager to find a profitable position. He concludes by stating his suspicions of the 5 Nations, who may be conspiring with the French to attack Christian settlers.
