At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Receipt for the personal belongings of eighteen men, which were sold to Livingston. Items include horses, carbines, calico stockings, and hats. P.3 contains a statement signed by 19 men ordering that Livingston pay the balance of his account with them. The men seem to be troops stationed at Schenectady. Also includes a note signed by George Lockhart attesting to the truth of previous statement. It is dated 1 June 1688.
