Writes to his sister complaining about the erratic mail service, and informs her of his dead comrades. Mentions the Battle of Shiloh, stating "I envy the wounded, and even the killed at the battle of Shiloh - Anything rather than this continued inactivity." Also writes, "I would have died gloriously." Discusses the Conscription Bill, which he describes as "the best thing Congress ever did." Written at "Camp at Moseleys Church."
