At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Robert Chapman, a member of a ship's company of about 30 years of age, had accused the master, Maxammilian Pinson, of denying him his wages. Deposition taken by Endecott as Royal Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Endecott was governor of the colony five times. One black and white bust engraving of Endecott included.
