At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

This document provides an inventory and description of items reviewed by Lieutenant Colonel R.C. Mitchell near Annapolis, Maryland. The items reviewed (knapsacks, haversacks, canteens, and shelter tent pieces) were all deemed either "unserviceable" or "worn out". It was concluded that they were "To Be Dropped" by the Company. Captain Ethan A. Jenks signs off as the Commanding Officer of the Company. Docketed on verso and signed by Major Louis Burnside.
