Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

They expect an attack on Louisville but he believes "if the rebbels undertakes it they wil git bad whipped." He has "no doubt but that the [war] wil be over by spring." He instructs his wife to teach their daughter as much as possible; "it is worth more to her than all else you can do for her."
