At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Reminds her to stay pretty because "…when I do return…then you can make me do as you please. You know how easily I am controlled by a pretty face and I think yours is quite so if you are 30 (almost)." Requests a letter from daughter Ida.
