At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Written from Leicester Square, likely in London, England. Addressed to Francis Waldo, Isaac Winslow, and Thomas Flucker. Summarizes to them his letter from 24 April (see GLC02437.09014). Expresses frustration at their inquiries regarding what fees they owe him as well as the fees they owe the court, and believes they "sat down to write before you had given your own business the hundredth part of that consideration which I had taken of it."
