At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Written and signed by John Heard, Jr., on behalf of Barney Wild. Discusses the financial woes of Barney Wild, stemming from Wild's loss of a draft note Knox gave him, which drew on the firm of Wales & Beale. Asks if Knox can send another draft note to replace the one Wild lost.
