At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes to introduce Knox to his friend Mr. Robert Gilmer of Baltimore and his daughter. The Gilmers are traveling to Boston and Bingham hopes they will arrive before Knox leaves Boston to go to Maine. Speaks of the virtues of Mr. Gilmer and hopes Knox will welcome him into his acquaintance.
