At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Appears to recommend a gentleman named John Higginson for a position. Discusses Higginson's background and notes Higginson has resided in Paris for the last five years. The addressee name was added later in pen. Date was taken from the docket which appears to be in Knox's writing.
