At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Two parts. First part is addressed to Benjamin Walker and discusses a deed to land. Notes he received Walker's letter pertaining to the St. Lawrence lands. Mentions he has repeatedly asked Duer for copies of several notes but that Duer has been unable to locate them. Also discusses Madam de Leval's intention of applying to the Massachusetts Legislature regarding her land claim. Believes if that were to happen the contract will likely be lost. Second part is a copy of a receipt written in Knox's hand from William Duer. Confirms Duer's receipt of money from Knox.
