At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Forwards the muster rolls for August and September. Notes that there is a discrepency in numbers for September due to the number "of the sick, absent and on Commands." Goes on to complain about the decline of the army, in particular the lack of discipline and proper uniforms. Originally included muster rolls, GLC02437.02450 and GLC02437.10536.
