At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Asks Knox for permission to retain a few of the men who were assigned to help build his house since many of the men are sick and unable to work. Advises the sick be sent to the hospital and wants to know how the remaining men will draw provisions. Mentions that he has been ill and confined to bed for eight to ten days.
