At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

A letter regarding clothing for which a Mr. Richards, D.C.M. Stores has been held accountable. Directs Frothingham to call on Richards to furnish receipts and vouchers for the clothing. Shaw further directs Frothingham to not make any settlements with Richards until he can provide a certificate accounting for all the articles of clothing.
