At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

In answer to Pickering's letter (see GLC02437.01351), encloses an estimate of the wagons necessary for the artillery in the ensuing campaign. Declares that he sees no problem with using oxen to pull ammunition wagons. Nominates Mr. Turner, a wagon master, to be in charge of the artillery wagons. Labeled "copy."
