At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Asks Knox to find an excuse for Waldo's mother, who has accused Waldo of neglect for not writing. States that running a store is very time consuming and prevents him from writing. Mentions that he sent a package with letters and newspapers to Knox and asks Knox if he received it.
