At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Reports to his friend that he has passed his medical examinations. Briefly comments on his lectures and exams. Now that he is a surgeon, Troutbeck can take the position he was offered on a ship to Bombay, India (see GLC02437.00002). He sails with Captain Read in March.
