At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

He is glad she has little Abby and she is taking her to meeting. He goes over all the various people he has heard that are sick and wishes them well.He writes that there is much sickness among the soldiers as well. Sadly many are wounded not in battle but by accident. He tells of an incident where the company was crossing the railroads and the cars came along wounding several men.
