Asks Harding to purchase $5 worth of Smoking Tobacco for him. Only wants good Tobacco and thinks it is 75 cents per pound, but Harding should not pay more than that price. Tells Harding that he is the "judge of the article." Harding should send it by Express if he is not coming down to Pilot Knob anytime soon. Also asks Harding to go to Colonel Livingston's office and inquire for a circular from the Ordnance Department. Writes that any blanks on the circular left by Lieutenant McDonald could be filled by Colonel Livingston. Tells Harding to send the circular to him by mail. The second page contains only one sentence: "you need not ask Colonel Livingston to fill up any blanks. I can do it here."

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
