Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Letter from someone whose initials were P.T.O. to one of the Noyeses. It provides information regarding relatives who lived in England in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, including William, Pete, and Percival. It talks about their lives, economic situations, and deaths, and briefly mentions Percival's service in the Monmouth Rebellion.
