My Dear Sir. William Cole, Esq. the Editor of the "Irish American" the most influential and widely circulated Irish paper in America, is powerfully recommended for a Paymastership in the Army by such patriots as Bishop Hughes, Genl Corcoran, Horace Greely, Gov. Morgan, and others. He has filed their testimonial with the Sec. of War. I know Mr. Cole well, and have known him for years as a gentleman of high character and ability, and great integrity. His journal is as you will see from his letters, a devoted and loyal supporter of the war. I do think he should be appointed for every reason.
Yours very Truly
J. W. Forney,
To The President Senate Chamber
Oct 1. 1862.

These are excellent and ample recommendations and if Mr. Cole can be consistently appointed let it be done so.
