At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Written to his aunt, Mrs. George A. Frick (Rebecca Frick). Reports that a letter was received by the captain stating that the men would soon be called in. Attended church and was delighted to find that the Right Reverend Bishop was in town. The reverend preached two beautiful sermons on the last Sabbath. Has received a letter from his sister Anna reporting that all were well. Reports that he is in good health and hopes that it continues. Sends his love to his family.
