At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Title reads: "Second Congress of the United States: At the first session, begun and held at the city of Philadelphia on Monday the twenty-fourth of October, one thousand seven hundred and ninety-one. An act to provide for a copper coinage." Stipulates how much copper the director of the United States Mint may buy, and how the Mint is to put the coinage into circulation. Signed as Secretary of State. Printed in Philadephia by Francis Childs and John Swaine. Evans 24904.
