McNeil informs Bedel that he will leave for Detroit in a few days. He notes talking with generals Eleazer Ripley and Benjamin Pierce (McNeil's father-in-law) about Colonel Bedel's merits and seeks continued correspondence. During the War of 1812, McNeil served as a captain under Bedel in the 11th infantry regiment and later became governor of New Hampshire.
