At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Promotes voluntary enlistment in order to raise troops to serve on the western frontiers of the New England governments and to prevent the further encroachment of the French. Lists what each volunteer will receive in terms of salary and equipment. Wentworth is listed as a "Captain General and Commander in his Majesties' Province of New Hampshire." On verso are dated notes made by a soldier, Ebenezer Eatton, recording marching activities. Note by Eatton states that he enlisted 9 March 1757.
