At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Lovell enlists himself in the British army from the Province of Massachusetts Bay, noting that he received five dollars as bounty money from Captain Timothy Hamant. Indicates that he is joining a mission for "the total Reduction of Canada." Lovell died on 26 October 1760 at Ticonderoga, New York.
