Wendell asks Gerry to use his political influence to help place him in a number of governmental positions. Says that he is confident he can attain the position of "Vendue Master" if Gerry can get him a favorable letter from the President. Also mentions his own powerful friends. He views Canada as integral to American success, though hears events are going poorly there. Letter is tipped onto a border.
