At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Thanks Judge Buel for a packet of books he sent. Discusses a publication by Buel's brother that proves a conspiracy to defraud the revenue. Remarks that the distress of Buel's brother has impaired his judgment though and "made his story highly excentric." Letter addressed to Buel "near Albany."
