At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses Colonel Newman's request for supplies and supply issues more generally. Also comments on the movements of a few regiments. With a brief postscript noting supplies taken by Major J.L. Brown. Zollicoffer was a brigadier general in the Confederate Army. Tazwell, a Tennessee state senator, served as Colonel of the 17th Tennessee Regiment.
