At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The Farmers Club of the American Institute of New York requests Congress to consider an amendment of forestry laws. Specifically they seek provisions to save national domain forests from needless waste, to create new forests and literature on forests, making the subject of tree culture an educational branch of study, and requiring the planting of trees for the use of public lands.
