At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The previous communication sent by Emma was incomplete due to the ice and harsh travel conditions. Emma has been sick but now is as well and strong as could be hoped, with recovery by degrees. She does not have diphtheria as previously thought. She is looking for local religious services for social religious needs after being cooped up.
