At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

They camped near Jonesboro and then they went up to Eastpoint. They are now camped inside rebel fortifications. During this time, they had been without shelter but for a single rubber blanket. He tells a story of how Sherman manages to fool Hood. The letter is written near Eastpoint, Georgia.
