Written in the hand of Taylor's adjutant, Stanhope Posey. Requests a meeting with Union General Edward S. Canby at Citronelle, Alabama to discuss the terms of surrender. States he has heard of Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston's surrender under the same terms as Robert E. Lee's surrender and wants to prevent further unnecessary bloodshed. Requests some additions be made to the surrender terms presented by Canby in an earlier memorandum. These concern additional troops that should be included in the surrender and the transportation of the soldiers after the surrender. Retained…
