Abraham Lincoln, of Illinois, at the Republican State Convention, June 16, 1858." This early printing shows the national attention Lincoln received for the speech of June 16, despite his loss to Douglas. Greeley endorses the speech in an editorial on page 4.

Depicts a serious young man in a waterproof cap and cape, holding an oil torch. The image has been painted to suggest light from the torch. The "wide awakes" led processions supporting Lincoln in the election of 1860. Nevins "Emergence of Lincoln" p. 305 describes such a procession in New York. (Underneath the ambrotype in its case is a printed notice: "Photography, 1839-1889. From the Collection of Albert Raborn Phillips, Jr. 1940.")

Linen Union campaign banner with image of an eagle holding an American flag shield. Banner held in eagle's beak reads [Abraham] Lincoln and [Andrew] Johnson. Printed in red, blue and black. Altered for use in the 1864 election. The original banner had Hannibal Hamlin's name as the vice-presidential candidate but in 1864, Hamlin's name was cut out and Johnson's added. Attached to original stick. Measurements include the stick. The stick measures 49.5 cm long by 1.5 cm wide.

Manuscript, probably the concluding portion of speech, possibly from the 1858 Senate campaign, concerning his expectation that slavery would eventually be abolished. Lincoln acknowledge his ambition for higher office but continues, "[i]n the Republican cause there is a higher aim than that of mere office. I have not allowed myself to forget that the abolition of the Slave-trade by Great Brittain [sic], was agitated a hundred years before it was a final success;...
