Partially printed document from the Congress of Massachusetts Bay Colony announcing the appointment of Perkins to the post of Captain of the company in the Regiment of Foot commanded by Colonel Moses Little. Autograph note on verso signed by Jonathan Hastings, Justice of the Peace and dated 1 July 1775 certifies that Perkins took the oath of appointment. Written the day after Warren assumed the presidency of the Massachusetts Provisional Congress from John Hancock. He wrote the letter "In Committee of Congress" to the Selectmen of Boston. Thanks them for their generosity toward the poor inhabitants of the city. Says "we cannot but Repeat our advise that the Committee of Donation would employ the Monies lodged in their Hands to facilitate their Removal." General Warren laments, in dire terms, his inability to get supplies for the troops under his command. He implores Gerry not to "triffle away this only Moment we have to employ for Salvation of our Country." A signed note on the verso from Artemas Ward urges immediate attention. Gerry was Chairman of the Committee of Supply of the Massachusetts Provincial Congress.

Title: [Resolution of Provincial Congress of Watertown for enlistments]

Clerical copy with signature of Joseph Warren, as President Pro Tempore, in the secretary's hand. Document refers to "the Recovery and preservation of our undoubted Rights and Liberties." Delineates pay scale of various ranks in the army, says a coat and uniform be given to each solider, also says town must provide blankets and miscellaneous supplies. Bottom of document says "True Coppy of the original." Repairs made where document was folded.

"It was so apparently incompatible with the Safety of the town for the troops to continue any longer in it, that His Majesty's Council were unanimous in their Advice to the Lieutenant Governor, that they should be removed to the Barracks at Castle Island." Also signed by James Bowdoin and Samuel Pemberton.

Title: Vote.

Warren, as Committee of Safety Chairman, declares that it has been voted by the Massachusetts Comittee of Safety that imprisoned loyalists are to be received and protected in Boston, its surrounding towns, and in other colonies. Only those loyalists that have "principles inimical to their country" (i.e. intend to fight for the crown) are to remain imprisoned, and they only until they have "recanted their principles." Also, the wives and children of these loyalists are to be treated with respect and "tenderness."
