Indicates that a messenger reported that Richmond had been attacked by Rebel calvary, detailing their trip down to assist the troops who were already there. Asks that his letter be addresses to "Co. G, 95th Reg. O.V.I in care of Capt. Hammock, Richmond, Kentucky."

Informs brother, from Fort Pickering, that three men from his regiment died last night from illness. Reports that there is news of "guerillas" burning a steamboat a few miles outside of Memphis, speculating that everyone was taken prisoner. Tells him that upon hearing this, his regiment fired shells at them from their Gun Boats and the next day he could see Rebel Calvary crossing into Hopefield. Letter incomplete and unsigned.

Tells him, "I am now seated in the Capt's Tent with no one to disturb me, and as I sit here my mind wanders back to the old Homestead, in my imagination I see you all as you ply your Evening Care, Mother busied washing dishes, &c Pap & your self eagerly reading the Contents of the 'Daily'... I can't help getting the 'Blues' a little, but then I think my Country needs my service... I believe it is my duty and I must not complain." Asks if Grier attended the "Grand Union Rally" at Urbana. Written in pencil.
